The Competent DPSer, Surviving LFG

By Uncleleo | February 7, 2010

Well I didn’t win the WoW.com submission contest. But here’s my article that was submitted to seed.com. Enjoy! If you want to read the winners article you can find it here From Manners to Mechanics; Five Tips for DPS

The new LFG tool is great for a new eighty or even a geared player looking for frost emblems each day. But with the implementation of the system comes new problems. This article is here to minimize that noobish aura you are putting off in party.

1) The 5 minute raider - Nothing sticks in my craw like a person Queing up for LFG, waiting the 10 minutes to get in and then immediately telling the group “GOGOGO I got a raid in 5 minutes”. Here’s a tip if you don’t have enough time to finish a 15 minute dungeon, then don’t Que. Que up after your raid.

2) The Dungeon Off tank – Sound unfamiliar? Let me explain. You waited in LFG for 10 minutes as a DPS for a reason. Your not a tank. Make sure Omen’s working and let the tank get aggro before you start DPSing. It’s not a tanks fault when you pet pull 3 mobs or start range DPS on a target before the tank gets to them. Sure your trying to speed things up but in the end it’s going to take longer when everyone has to ghost back to their lifeless bodies.

3)The AFKer - Que up, buff up, make first pull and then stand there. I always like to think that this person just had some epic event happen in their home that made them have to step away from the game. A freak sandstorm inside their room, spilling orange soda all over their keyboard or fighting the cat over the use of the mouse. Typically this noob is sitting in front of the screen while they eat a bag of Cheetos and watch cartoons. Moving their toon forward to make it look like they are still there. Don’t get me wrong I love Cheetos and cartoons but not during my random daily.

4) The Underachiever - You’ve worked hard for that 5000 gearscore. Use it! Seeing an epically geared toon put out 1,000 dps is very discouraging for the group. Remember that the LFG tool takes gear into account when choosing who to group you up with. Your gear means that the LFG expects you to be able to put out a certain amount of DPS. If you’re epically geared and the tank or a new 80 in blues is out dpsing you then your not trying hard enough. The more DPS you provide the shorter this dungeon will take and the quicker you can get your emblems and get out.

5) The Stressful toon - Remember your playing a game, this toon is why tanks choose not to que up the random daily. You try to control the group. You blame the tanks for wipes. You blame the heals for dieing. Be nice to your tank, thank your heals. If everyone started being nice to the tanks and making their jobs a little less stressful then maybe our wait times in LFG wouldn’t be so long. Simple enough.

All in all just put everything into your groups just as you would your raids. Things will move quicker and you can get those emblems of frost faster. Also if you get one of the DPSers described above, throw them on your ignore list to avoid being qued up with them again. The LFG is a great new tool provided by Blizz to make our lives a little easier. Use it but don’t abuse it.
