Clicker 4 Life

By Uncleleo | February 14, 2010

This next post by me should bring my Noobness to a whole new level. I’m not sure exaclty how I stumbled on this old Wow.com post but it got me thinking (which is never a good thing)

Mouse or Keyboard

I have always wondered how other players can bind everything to their keyboard. Personally I have been a clicker for my entire life as a gamer. From back in the days of Age of Empires, Starcraft and now Warcraft. I do use a couple of key bindings and macros but anytime there is movement involved I am stuck with my cursor over mutilate.

I’m sure I am losing out on some DPS by not being able to use my keyboard for everything but at the same time it seems like a tough transition and one that would take alot of work. I know I also lose out on valuable UI space because I have to have my buttons big enough to find during an intense fight.

I am interested to see if I am the only clicker left out there or if some other people still practice this ancient art. Also if anyone has any good tips on losing the mouse please let me know!

On a side note, I did something dumb yesterday and reinstalled Starcraft. I’m getting pretty excited about the upcoming SC2 release so needed to shake off some cobwebs.

Yeah, I am right there with you. I MOSTLY use the keyboard but I have this trackball that I can’t give up so when it comes to certain things, like you mentioned, really tense situations I find myself slipping back into old habits.

For myself the transition from Clicker to Keyboard took a Gaming Keyboard and LOTS of practice. I have gotten to where on Main my Keyboard has become my major tool but with alts….still a clicker.

Definitely use to be a clicker as I felt the same way you did, (i.e. too hard of a transition), but I finally made the swap over when my wife bought me a Nostromo n52 gamepad… plugged it in and have loved it ever since :)

Thanks for the tips! It sounds like to really be able to get rid of the clicking I may be looking at a little bit of $$$.

But a new keyboard does sound good. =)

I posted about this a while ago, I bind most abilities to my mouse scroll wheel. Works a treat.
